The idea of absolute rights over landed property, is deeply embedded in our society. Moreover, the idea of absolute property is today a driver for world-scale privatisation and speculation. However, the reality of land use rights is much more complex than the general discourse suggests and diverse civil society initiatives contest the mechanisms of ‘enclosure’ by starting cooperatives, sharing economies, trusts and the like. The lecture will address the challenges of sharing land uses and land use rights encountered by these initiatives, as explored in the research project INDIGO.
