Public Dreaming Clinic Malmö, 2017

Conceived and developed by Leon Tan and Amanda Newall, the Public Dream Clinic Hasselt is an open platform for participation in collaborative sleeping and social dreaming. It provides an opportunity to explore the typically individual (and private) experience of dreaming and dream recollection within an explicitly social and public context.

While dreams are often understood to have personal meaning, we believe that many dreams can also be socially meaningful, and can function as a mode of collective thinking. We invite you to relax and unwind in this space, to have a siesta/nap in the hammocks, and to share your dreams with a wider public. All dreams are welcome, whether from the distant or recent past. Shared dreams are recorded for the creation of an evolving archive of public dreaming as well as for a moving image work.

  • Draw or write down your dreams with the pencils and paper provided.
  • Try on the lounging attire, costumes and masks, and use them to retell or re-enact a dream to camera.
  • Make associations to the dreams and share your associations with the pencils and paper provided.
  • Come to one of the three facilitated public dreaming sessions (Tues/Weds/Thurs 13:30-15:00)

*Participants are invited to begin keeping a record of their dreams 3-4 days before engaging with the public dream clinic, and to bring recorded dreams to share.

**Besides the facilitated public dreaming sessions, The Public Dream Clinic Hasselt – Siësta edition is open for the entire duration of the TRADERS Open School, for collaborative sleeping and social dreaming.**
