Kolenspoor City (presentation)
by Ciel Grommen
Wednesday 26 April, 10h30-11h30 at Z33

Since 2014, the seven municipalities that are situated in the proximity of the Coaltrack, ‘Kolenspoor’ in Dutch, have joined forces in thinking about the future of the region. Up til now, this debate has only taken places within expert circles. In order to include the local population in this debate, Z33/Architectuurwijzer and Space Caviar created a spatial design game. The game makes use of drawings which are combined and structured by the participants in order to create neighbourhoods in a first stage, and a whole cityscape in a second. Children, elderly people, business men, former miners, teenagers and many more have already worked together to visualise their ideas during different workshop sessions, using the same visual language and method. All these future scenarios will soon be merged into one large collage of the ‘Kolenspoor City’. During this talk, Ciel Grommen, project coordinator of the project, will give an introduction to this participatory project and will address the different phases of this ambitious and interesting trajectory.
